From a garage to a brick and mortar
What started as an email list passed around by word of mouth grew into a full-service shop — built on the kind of knowledgeable, no-bs customer service we're known for today. We're competitors, hunters, reloaders, and collectors, and we're devoted to helping the law-abiding, responsible citizen be properly armed for hunting, competition, or self-defense.
The Beginning
Started selling firearms and sporting goods out of a residential garage.
The Expansion
Partitioned off a small showroom inside the garage — a big improvement at the time.
Getting Official
Wallkill River Small Arms, LLC was incorporated.
Getting Commercial
A speak-easy gun shop only goes so far. We obtained a commercial location and began renovations.
Open for Business
Renovations complete, licenses issued, inventory on the shelves — open to the public.
Still Growing
Constantly signing on with new distributors and manufacturers. Don't see it in the shop? Ask — we can probably get it.
Run by people who actually shoot
Frank Riess
I've been around guns for a long time; well over three decades. Maybe since I was half-a-decade old. I started with a single shot Chipmunk that was a gift from my father. I've been competing since a very young age and have experience in many disciplines — NRA High Power, Small Bore, Bullseye, Bowling Pins, USPSA, 3 Gun, Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, PRS Rimfire, Steel Challenge to name a few. I pride myself on being a well-rounded shooter that's pretty darn proficient with whatever I pick up.
These days something seems to always get in between me and a big match that I wish I was at. You're far more likely to find me on some backyard range involved in an impromptu contest betting "you can't hit that." Even though I'm not competing like I should, I'm still immersed in guns. Whether I'm teaching a private one-on-one lesson, repairing someone's grandfather's gun or researching the value or significance of an old relic, the industry is always within arms-reach.
If I give you my two cents, it's from experience. If I don't know the answer to your question, I'll tell you that. Oh, and that Chipmunk rifle, it's now in the service of my daughter and she rarely misses a target or an opportunity to shoot it!
Remington
While he still has the final say in your stay, he is approaching retirement and as such he may just watch you from the camera. With his eyes closed. It's not that he doesn't want to see you, he would just rather dream about you.
Hickory
Our other black lab on staff. Overly friendly and incurably goofy, Hickory thinks every customer walked in just to see him — and he's not wrong.
